We are sure that right now you are asking yourself a lot of questions like: How does a funnel work? What are its phases? What are the reasons why I should implement it? Is it really useful?
And most importantly, how do I do it?
Keep reading and your doubts will be solved!
Defining the sales funnel
Come on, it is time for “Meeting Dots” definition.
We do not want you to get confused with the typical marketing concepts that people, like us, usually use.
Here you have the definition: it is a marketing technique that gives you a real graph of the steps your potential customer takes in each part of the sales process to fulfil a certain objective; it could be purchasing, subscription, etc.
We say that, with the creation of a sales funnel, you will be able to make a true graph because the funnel allows you to measure everything. In this way, you will have a super deep knowledge of what is working and what is not in your sales process.
All in all, you will be able to identify, in a very visual way, what happens with your customers from the moment they enter your website. This will allow you to correct errors and anticipate everything that may occur throughout this process.
Reasons why you should create a sales funnel for your business
There are several reasons why you should consider implementing a sales funnel in your business:
- The first one we mentioned in the previous point: the ease of being able to measure everything. Also, the possibility to build up a picture of what is happening with your potential customer at each stage of the sales process.
- You will have full knowledge of the number of users you lose in each part of the process.
- You will know what is the user’s behavior within your website.
- Thanks to this real data, you will be able to solve errors and improve the strong points to qualify the leads that come to your website. In other words, your sales funnel will help you capture quality traffic.
- You will increase your sales because you will only sell your products and services when your customer is ready for the sale. In addition, you will know this because, depending on what stage your customer is in, he will be more or less ready to make that decision.
As you can see, these are 5 reasons more than compelling. We would not let any more time pass and we would get going now!
Write down the phases of any sales funnel
Sales funnels are closely related to a very important marketing strategy nowadays: Inbound Marketing.
In fact, the stages of this marketing strategy are fully identified with those of the sales funnel.
If we talk about Inbound Marketing, the stages are as follows:
- Attract: focused on bringing qualified traffic to a specific website. To attract these users, Inbound Marketing targets content generation: blog posts, content for social networks and, above all, search engine optimization.
- Convert: this stage focuses on capturing quality leads through, for instance, writing good sales pages, microcopywriting for CTAs, and creating forms that make it easy for users to become subscribers.
- Close: this is the decisive phase of the Inbound Marketing strategy because it is aimed directly at closing sales. In other words, converting subscribers into customers. In this case, the nurturing process is exploited to the maximum to lead them through the pure and simple sale.
- Delight: the post-sales phase is also very important because it is the one that will lead your customer to enjoy a unique user experience and become the best ambassador of your brand. Normally, email marketing and the design of exclusive offers are key.
Having explained the stages of Inbound Marketing, let’s move on to the funnel stages.
In order to understand the phases of a sales funnel, please imagine a funnel with its wide part first and the narrowest part at the end.
Now, visualize the phases in this way:
- TOFU or top of the funnel: is the phase located at the widest part of the funnel as you have imagined it. A lot of users fall into it because we call their attention to attract them to our website.
- MOFU or middle of the funnel: this phase is between the widest and the narrowest phase. You will lose some of those users because we are already looking for quality. We want to convert them into leads to warm them up and get them ready to make a buying decision at the right time.
- BOFU or bottom of the funnel: is the phase located at the narrowest part of the funnel. Only the users who are ready to buy, i.e. the most qualified ones, will be in this phase.
After BOFU, you should move on to the delight phase. Although this phase is not specified in the sales funnel.
Without delightment you would risk selling to customers who will never come back to you again, and the best thing is that you take advantage of the fact that these contacts have become customers so that you never lose them.
How to create a good sales funnel
We recognize that we always save the best for last. However, we believe that in this way, we make it easier for you to “learn” sometimes complex concepts.
- The sales funnel puts content at the center of success. The reason is that, thanks to the creation of valuable and quality content for the user, we fulfil the stages of the funnel: positioning in Google, attracting the attention of users, resolving their search intent, gaining relevance and authority, nurturing subscribers and converting them into end customers.
- Therefore, it is important that you design a good content strategy. Taking into account at what stage each user is, since a visitor needs different information than a subscriber or an end customer.
- Adapt those contents, as we have mentioned, and the campaigns to each user profile.
- Automate all the processes that are within your reach, thanks to this you will be able to focus on content generation and customer service.
- Make your visitors, subscribers and customers feel unique and offer them a unique experience. Personalize your content as much as possible and encourage active listening to offer them everything they really need.
- Show yourself always available to solve doubts, to overturn objections, and solve any problems that may arise. It will allow you to improve and anticipate any type of scenario. And the customers will be infinitely grateful!
